Avalanche defeat Flames 5-4

The Calgary Flames let a game where they were in complete control slip away Thursday night in Denver.

According to TSN, Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and two assists as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Calgary Flames 5-4.

Landeskog, Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene scored third period goals for the Avalanche, who erased a two goal Calgary third period lead. With the game tied at four, Duchene scored the game winning goal from P.A. Parenteau and Jamie McGinn with 9:08 left in the third period. The Flames were also up by three goals at 3-0 after the first period, before the Avalanche got momentum on early second period goals by Ryan O'Byrne and David Jones.

With the loss, the Flames fall to 7-8-4 on the season and remain in last place in the Northwest Division, fourteenth in the Western Conference, but only four points back of the Minnesota Wild for a playoff spot.

The Flames next play against the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday night.
