The third set in Magic: The Gathering’s Innistrad block has been revealed – Avacyn Restored. There are a few big surprises alongside this announcement of the presumed angelic return of Avacyn to the plane of Innistrad for players. Monty Ashley made the announcement today on the Magic Arcana.
Avacyn Restored (AVR) will be a large set at 244 cards, so although it will be part of Innistrad block it will be drafted and played in sealed by itself. If you remember Zendikar block’s Rise of the Eldrazi, it’s along those lines, meaning this set could potentially feature an array of mechanics significantly different than what we see in Innistrad and Dark Ascension.
Avacyn Restored’s Twitter hashtag is officially #MTGAVR, and players are also treated to a bit of prophetic artwork presumably from the upcoming set, picturing the archangel Avaycn returning to a village in Innistrad, possibly ready to oust Sorin and the Vampire bloodlines from whatever wicked designs they get up to in Dark Ascension.
Avacyn Restored is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012, with prerelease events kicking off on April 28-29 2012.
