The 2013 version of Autumn in Minnesota has rolled around. It came upon us so quickly, and so surprisingly, catching most of us off guard. This is what is heard over and over in the stores, in the airport, on the street....
Yet, as Minnesotans, we know when the calendar page turns to October, the cool, crisp nights are not far behind. Then suddenly the coolness carries through to the daytime hours, and eventually all is cold. But is it?
There are very few places warmer than Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Hop in the car and take one of the many beautiful roads throughout the Upper Midwest. Enjoy the changing leaves and their myriad of color. The back roads of Northern Wisconsin never disappoint!
Find your warmth in a cozy old scarf or sweater. Or, why not learn to knit your own during a long chilly evening? Find your warmth in your favorite fuzzy socks or slippers, a brand new set of soft sweats (ah, elastic), or some great mittens with a fleece lining. After all, as the saying goes, "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing"!
Find your warmth in a local coffee shop. Enjoy their fireplace. Take something with you that you've been meaning to read, but just haven't taken the time.
Enjoy the warmth of flannel sheets, and invest in a great comforter for your bed.
Host a dinner with family or friends, and let the apple cider, wine, cocoa, and other favorites flow. Feature the comfort food you miss so much in the heat of summer. Light some candles. Enjoy the closeness and warmth of others in your life.
If you can, adopt an animal from the local shelter that can warm your feet at night and your heart during the day.
Though it's chilly outside, there are many ways to be warm on the inside. It's a special time. Enjoy!
