Autumn, a truly artistic season, inspires ideas not just with the beautiful colors but generates inspiration in anticipation for what is to come. As trees prepare for winter by casting off the leaves after reabsorbing nutrients into the twigs, by comparison, a writer discards ideas that are not important or restrictive and reabsorbs the unconstrained concepts of their work in progress.
While the breathtaking colors of fall delight eyes in search for beauty, the process is much more utilitarian, just as a writer’s words carry more importance than being rhythmically placed across the page. Consider how photosynthesis transforms carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates and oxygen for energy, then combined with nutrients from the soil which is necessary for the formation of leaves and stems on trees. Now compare this to how inspiration and life experiences transforms ideas and characters into stories that all humans can relate creating a timepiece classic.
Even the end of fall when the leaves have shed and all that is left standing is the trunk with gray branches reaching in all directions, yet most essential for the life of a tree, the deciduous process extends into our creative minds as we forget the past obstacles shedding apprehension as we move forward accepting that new and greater things are to come.
Autumn, considered by many as an ending, a sad season as its approach indicates the end of summer, a time of vacations and breaks from school, does not have to be a gloomy semester of the year. Consider for a moment what fall means as a beginning. The peak of the season when the leaves are at their brightest color is like a brainstorm that sparks the right idea and grows creating something so grand from just a minuscule thought.
Shake off the heat and humidity of summer, cozy up with your notebook and let your mind do what it is intended to do, think without restrictions. Let the memories of your past play out like a movie then write your sequel.
Slip into your coziest sweater and take a walk outside. Take a deep breath of the crisper air and know that it is not an ending but a beginning of a new chapter of seasons and that the new growth is like chlorophyll that will bring greener pastures.
