Autumn Color: Designed by the Creator Himself

Fall foliage display in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA

God, the Creator Himself, spoke the Earth into existence as recorded in the book of Genesis Chapter one; and within his living and breathing masterpiece, he added colorful skies with blue, purple, red, pink, orange, and yellow sunsets, and then splashed colorful rainbows above, after a dark storm.

Then, underneath the Earth’s surface, he filled the dark oceans with the most beautiful and self-contained garden in the world, including coral that looks like navy blue cauliflower, jade and lilac coral that resemble brains and hot pink ferns that sway in the water. Then, he added sapphire blue fish dappled with a dash of turquoise, bright yellow fish with orange stripes, purple fish dotted with yellow spots, white fish with black bars down their sides, and even vivid red fish with tones of green.

He painted the skies with vivid color

When the Lord created the land, he decided to create seasons to fill the landscape with pink, red, yellow, and purple flowering trees and shrubs in springtime. In the season of summer, he added beautiful blooming flowers and mountainsides boasting wildflowers of every color. But it’s the colors of fall that take center stage right now. The Bible says, “…And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye…” (Genesis 2:8, 9).  Although in the Northeast it’s almost over; the natural fireworks display that the Lord created in many parts of the country in autumn can only be the work of one divine creator with trees bursting into colors of yellow, gold, orange, peach, pink, red, maroon, and purple. It’s funny to think that God could have created the Earth in black and white.

In the depths of the sea, he displays his artwork

After seeing this wonderful and natural display of God's power, how can one not know that there is a God, no matter what their faith or religion. The Bible says in Romans 1:19-20, “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”  Once a man sees the beauty of nature, the Bible claims, he has no excuse; he must know there is a God.

Now is the time to enjoy God’s majestic landscape and the beautiful fall foliage that the Lord planted on the Earth for fall; because soon, the Earth will turn white as it prepares itself for another colorful explosion this spring. To appreciate and study the beauty that God has created on Earth is to observe part of the personality and nature of God.  “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4)
