Autumn, any artist who calls the Central Valley home will tell you autumn is one of the best times for busting out fine art creations. Why? Simply because they no longer have to endure the intense summer time heat. That in itself is a huge plus. A slightly deeper reason is fall brings the colors of nature into our own back yards and everyone knows how important color is to the artist. These being two random reasons for loving autumn, every artist have their own original reasons.
Unless you have actually been in the Valley in fully blown summer, you probably won't understand why the locals don't consider it their favorite time of the year. When most people think of Cali, they think of gorgeous weather, surfing, insane landscapes, awesome produce and beautiful people who are all timed to the beat of their own drums. Yes, California is all of this but what many would be surprised to know is that Central California is a semi desert region. It's understandable that this comes as a shock so take a moment to recover. Not wanting to create fine art in the summer time heat makes perfect sense. This is why fall is a soothing time of the year for the artists of the Fresno area. It also brings with it colors of the warm side of the color wheel naturally occurring throughout our beautiful landscapes. The oranges of the maples, the yellows of the grapevines and the reds of the red oaks. In the perfect, yet usually hard to find and many times hidden places, these colors will accent the foreground and the blues, greens and every so often the purples, that are the Sierra Nevada mountains, accent the background. What a delight to see the natural contrasts of the warm colors against the cool colors in a landscape scene other than a sunset. Let's not forget that autumn is the prime art festival season. Think about it, the majority of art festivals are in autumn. The Taste of the Arts have several to choose from in this season. Side note, to view the up and coming Taste of the Arts social events, visit: www.tasteofthearts.org. Also looking to the near future, several of the surrounding towns have their art bazaars planned for November. Getting back to the business side of it, the times and dates for these bazaars are usually found in the arts and entertainment section of the local newspaper or in any social arts event. Re-routing to the art side. So autumn is perfect to plan a day trip and visit the fine art festivals that the Valley has to offer.
To recap, autumn is an awesome time to view outdoor fine art events in perfect weather. Fall colors in the surrounding landscapes is a sight to see even without visiting any art events, but works well with seeing an event. Escaping from the summer time heat is also an all important reason for autumn weather and it is also the holiday season, just to throw that in the mix as a hint.
