One of my first auto shows was AutoRama. I remember stalking so many cars with my Brownie camera that I ran out of film while my parents, who were understanding enough to treat this burgeoning car nut to a trip to this homage to custom vehicles stood by.
I remember seeing some of the icons of the business, from Detroit's own Walt's Puffer, the first A/Altered drag car to break the 150mph barrier in a quarter mile, to those from the imagination of California customizers like Barris and Roth, and the car that made the first Beach Boys album iconic
Now, you can treat your own car nut to a reprise of the show featuring America’s finest hot rods, customs, trucks and motorcycles roll into Cobo Center this March 8-10 for AutoRama.
Special exhibits include a tribute to the Batmobile, featuring three generations of the iconic crime-stopping machine, including "The Tumbler" from the 2005 version, and WRIF’s Kid Rock Collection of legendary vehicles owned by Detroit’s own Kid Rock.
There will also be special celebrity appearances by Christopher Douglas Reed; Philip “Filthy Phil” Russell from TV’s “Son’s of Anarchy”; WWE Superstar Sheamus; Wrestling Superstar “Edge” (Adam Copeland); Davis Cleveland, “Flynn Jones,” from Disney’s “Shake it Up”; Stefanie Scott, “Lexi Reed” from Disney’s A.N.T. Farm; and Spongebob Squarepants.
