The Montreal International Auto Show continues to run until January 27 at the Palais des Congres. While most of the really good stuff gets saved for the North American Auto Show in Detroit, also currently running, there were some Canadian and North American premieres.
Mitsubishi introduced its 2014 global small subcompact, which will be reaching Canadian dealers sometime this fall. The Canadian version has yet to receive a name, but it’s called the Mirage elsewhere. It comes with five doors (it’s a hatchback) and a 1.2 litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine so it should be easy on fuel consumption. While the price hasn’t been set, it’s also expected to be easy on the pocketbook. Despite its small size, it’s claimed it has room for five adults and baggage. The debut model was clad in an attractive green metallic paint; other colour options will include dark grey, blue mica, black mica, red metallic, silver metallic and white.
At the opposite end of the scale, Nissan was showing off its NV200 compact cargo van. Like the Mitsubishi subcompact, while the NV200 is new to us, it’s been available elsewhere for several years. Meant for commercial use, Nissan says the van is an efficient alternative to other cargo vans and small pickups, with fuel economy of 8.7 L/100 km in the city and 7.1 on the highway. It also offers low clearance for indoor parking, and best-in-class turning radius. It should arrive at NV dealers sometime this spring.
