Automotive Legend Carroll Shelby Dies at 89

Carroll Hall Shelby has died at a Dallas hospital. The cause of death was not disclosed. His cars, such as the Shelby GT350 and Shelby Cobra transformed the automotive industry. Shelby's celebrated past includes roles as Championship-winning racecar driver, wartime pilot, car manufacturer, team owner, philanthropist and entrepreneur.

Milwaukee author and Shelby historian Colin Comer said, "We've lost a true automotive icon. Carroll changed the automotive and racing world with his creations. But more importantly he changed lives. His legacy will live forever through his cars, his fans and the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation."

Shelby is survived by his wife, Cleo; his children, Patrick, Michael and Sharon; and a sister, Anne Shelby Ellison. Funeral plans are not currently available.
