I am purchasing a pre-owned 2005 BMW 740iL with approximately 70,000 miles. Is this a good purchase? Where do I find a BMW mechanic in my area to accompany me to the dealer and help me find a good vehicle?

Look for an independent import repair shop and have a pre-purchase inspection done on the vehicle rather than having the tech visit the dealer with you, because there is no substitute for getting the vehicle up on a lift and thoroughly checking it out before you buy it! It is well worth the small amount of money you will spend to evaluate such an expensive purchase. As for your question as to whether or not this is a good purchase? Without seeing the vehicle it is impossible to tell. Overall, BMW is a great product both in performance and initial quality but used condition can vary depending on how the vehicle was maintained. A good pre-purchase inspection will reveal any and all concerns. Good luck.
