On Monday, Morrison-Gordon Elementary School officials told Charla Gretz that Shyanna, her 6 year-old daughter would have to change schools because her special education teacher cannot be near Gretz’s Labrador retriever.
First grader Shyanna Gretz, and her dog Spring have been ordered to move to East Elementary School, where a teacher without dog allergies can be assigned to her.
But Charla Gretz doesn’t accept this decision. She says the bus ride and switching schools could be frustrating for her daughter. She questions why her daughter cannot be assigned a different teacher who isn’t allergic to dogs. For now, neither side will budge. Therefore, Shayanna and her service dog will stay home and use online courses until the school board hears the case.
