It seems some people don't adhere to the wisdom of the Bible verse that talks about removing the speck in your own eye before you worry about the speck in someone else's. A disturbing and sinister story is being reported in the Huffington Post on Aug. 19. A vicious note was sent to the mother of a boy in Newcastle, Ontario, advising his family that he is a neighborhood “nuisance” and that they should “euthanize him.”
Karla Begley, mother of Max, can’t read the letter passed to her through Max’s grandmother without tearing up. "The more you go on, the worse it gets," Begley told Toronto’s CityNews. "Who says that about a child?"
The letter is vicious, pure and simple. It is signed “One pissed off mother.” Here are a few choice excerpts.
Max is referred to as a neighborhood “nuisance,” “retarded” and a “dreadful” noise polluter.
"Personally, they should take whatever non retarded [sic] body parts he possesses and donate it to science. What the hell else good is he to anyone!!!" the letter reads. "Do the right thing and move or euthanize him!! Either way we are ALL better off!!!"
The family has contacted local police and would like to press charges. The letter is being investigated by law enforcement. In a statement to Yahoo Canada News, Spokeswoman Jodi MacLean stated that the threat is being taken “seriously.”
The neighborhood where the family lives is doing the right thing and has rallied around Max and his family, trying to make them feel even more comfortable and not as threatened.
A photo of the letter was tweeted by YouTube stars Lennon and Maisy, identified as family friends. Fortunately, the Twitter response has been primarily positive with people calling the letter what it is, “a shame,” “evil” and “hateful.”
Sadly, it seems like it’s still okay to pick on the handicapped and ill in our society. Hopefully, the response to this hate-filled screed will show people that it’s most definitely not okay.
