Autism Money : Free Services and Grant List

Want free autism services? Here's what to do. Autism services can be found for free in most areas. Contact your local colleges and ask to volunteer your child for speech therapists, Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), Music Therapists and Art Therapists, explains an article on the website Parenthood.com.

The writer goes on to say,  “the college students need to accumulate clinical hours before they can graduate and get their degrees.  They must put the time in somewhere, and they can hardly charge for it since they are not certified.  Generally the students volunteer their time to go alongside other therapists at private clinics.  Let them volunteer their time with YOUR child.  Sometimes, they do charge, but at far lesser rates.”

ABA RESOURCES ONLINE

  • ABA Resources Online.  Applied Behavioral Analysis is currently the "gold standard" in autism treatment.  It's terribly expensive.  President Obama sites autism as our nation's number one health crisis and is trying to make ABA the right of every child through various means.  For now... we parents are on our own to afford this very expensive treatment.  Educate yourself!  Do what you can at home.  Start here.  They offer FREE downloadable materials.

Autism Online Education Tools

  • Online Educational Tools.  Here is one example of some wonderful websites that help with treating autism via home education.  And it's free.

Contact Hospitals in Your Area

Seek grants through hospital training programs and studies.  When your child has autism, you learn to think outside the box!  Contact Childrens' Hospital in your area or any major hospital and ask if any autism trials or studies are being run and if your child could participate for free.  These situations are win-win because you end up trying new treatments (by and large a lot of them are behavioral, but some offer free meds and psych evals) and the doctors get to publish studies which help with treating other kids with autism.  Start at Childrens, contact the Child Development Unit and ask about any studies they may be aware of, even through other facilities.  If they don't have any trials, ask if they have any parent training seminars.  They are usually free.
