San Diego Lifeguard divers, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, recovered Leonard Kevin Jones’ body from the lake.

“A city worker noticed an upside down kayak at Lake Sutherland Dam just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday,” according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Christine Robbins.

Another sheriff’s official reported, “The city worker told the authorities that Mr. Jones, who frequently fishes at the lake, had a heart condition.”

Lieutenant Robbins reported that deputies checked the shoreline and asked for a helicopter to help the search. A search and-rescue team was unable to find Mr. Jones before dark. The search resumed the following day.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner declared Mr. Jones dead at 9:30 a.m. An autopsy is pending.

Lake Sutherland, owned by the city, is about 45 minutes northeast of downtown San Diego, according Michelle Mowad
