Were you at the Beatles' 1965 Shea Stadium concert? What do you remember about it?
Dave Schwensen, author of "The Beatles In Cleveland: Memories, Facts & Photos About The Notorious 1964 & 1966 Concerts," is putting together a book on the famed Aug. 15, 1965, concert that was later televised on ABC-TV in the U.S. (You can see a video clip of the Beatles singing "Help!" from the concert at the bottom of the page.)
He told us it all came about because, "rock photographer Philip Kamin, (http://www.philipkaminimages.com/) had read "The Beatles In Cleveland" and contacted me. He was an official photographer for Paul McCartney around 1979 and same on a few Rolling Stones tours, Genesis, Van Halen and more. Very respected. He also owns the copyrights for more than 50 photos from the (Shea Stadium) concert taken by Marc Weinstein."
He said the idea for the book, though, is more than just pictures. "Instead of this being simply a 'picture book,' we want readers to feel they're actually at the concert -- what was going on leading up to that famous event, behind the scenes, back stage, etc. You know, the full treatment."
He said he's looking to hear from fans who were there at the show.
"We're only about two weeks into this and I've done a lot of research, but what I'm looking for now are memories from fans -- or anyone with a connection, including workers, security, etc. -- who were at the concert. They can send me an email with their story and I'm also scheduling phone interviews. The goal is to put it all together moment by moment - with sights, sounds and emotions."
A website has been set up at www.BeatlesSheaStadium.com. And you can email him with your memories at Dave@BeatlesSheaStadium.com.
Schwensen says he's hoping to have the book out by autumn of 2011 at the latest.
