On October 4, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., join local author Kevin Luthardt at the Skokie Public Library as he celebrates the release of his latest children's picture book "When Edgar Met Cecil." The Skokie Public Library is located at 5215 Oakton Street in Skokie, Illinois.
"When Edgar Met Cecil" is a colorful picture book for younger readers about what happens when a robot moves from his robot-inhabited town to a place where everyone looks different, eats different food, and listens to different music. Edgar feels out of place.
Then he makes a friend. And both of them learn that differences don't matter as much as having someone to share things with.
It's a charming story and it's beautifully illustrated. I love to compare the colors in the two different locations. In Edgar's first home, Luthardt uses a soft palette of pale colors, but in Edgar's new home the colors are wild and crazy. And kids see the difference.
For more information, visit Luthardt's website or call the library. The phone number for the Skokie Public Library is (847) 673-7774. Since the book is about an alien and a robot, kids are welcome to dress as robots or aliens. They also can participate in the parade around the library. No registration is necessary for this event.
