Author Jack Whyte to introduce Surrey to Scotland's heroes

When it comes to guts and glory Scotland ranks with the best. Just ask renowned historical fiction author, Jack Whyte

Whyte will be guest speaker at Surrey City Centre Library on Wednesday April 18 at 7 p.m..

"Guardians of Scotland", Whyte’s new trilogy, features three legendary 14th-Century Scottish heroes -William Wallace (Braveheart), Robert the Bruce (King of Scots), and Sir James (the Black) Douglas. Combine that with the author’s stage background, flare for drama and rich speaking voice. Chances are you’ll develop a whole new respect for history, writing, books - and a desire to visit Scotland.

Whyte, a Scottish-born Kelowna resident, stars perennially as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter at the respected Surrey International Writers’ Conference each October. He also co-sponsors SiWC's "Storyteller's Award" with Diana Gabaldon, author of  the popular Outlander series.

The author, poet, teacher credits his interest in 5th Century history and the 460-year Roman military occupation of Britain to his early classical education in Scotland during the 1950s.

Prior to his current trilogy, Whyte developed a loyal following based on The Knights Templar Trilogy. In the three novels he leads readers through the rise and fall of the Order of the Knights of the Temple of Solomon. Whether in print, on stage, or on screen, the tales are timeless and thrilling. Whyte injects personal adrenalin into ‘his’ characters. Resist them if you can.

Note: In 1818, almost 500 years after Robert Bruce died, workmen uncovered a tomb in Dunfermline Abbey. An oak and lead coffin housed a skeleton wrapped in gold cloth. The chest of the skeleton had been cut open to remove the heart. This was indeed Robert Bruce, King of Scots.
