Australian Open 2013: Venus Williams does quick work in first round victory (Photos)

Much like her younger sister, Venus Williams needed little time to defeat her first round opponent at the Australian Open. It took all of an hour to top Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 6-1, 6-0.

As number three ranked sister Serena Williams watched, Venus produce steady and effective shots which kept the 80th ranked Voskpboeva out of the match.

"I don't think my opponent quite got the hang of — you know, it's hard to play the first match in a major, first thing of the year, and that can be a lot of pressure." Williams said. "I did my best to just close it out."

Since Williams was diagnosed in 2011 with an immune illness with symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue and muscle pain, she has steady climbed back to the top the rankings. Last year, Venus moved from outside the top 100 to finish 2012 at No. 24.

This is Venus Williams’ 13th Australian Open and at age 32 is one the tour veterans. Starting in 1994, she is entering her 20th season and hopes to add more.

"I love the game," she said, "and while I'm here, I'm going to go for it."
