New Year's Eve in Australia marked the culmination of a year-long adventure that took a married couple around Australia by running a marathon each and every day -- all while maintaining a raw vegan diet.
Janette Murray-Wakelin, 64, and Alan Murray, 68, achieved the impressive feat when they trotted into Melbourne to the delight of their children, grandchildren, and an additional 200 supporters; some runners enthusiastically joined along to accompany the Murray's along their final trek.
Tuesday, December 31 marked their 365th consecutive marathon and then on Wednesday they ran an additional marathon which set a world record.
"A very emotional moment and so wonderful to see them," said the couple after seeing their family. "We were quite overwhelmed with such a wonderful welcome."
According to their Facebook page, they have run 9776,75 miles in the year and they've also maintained their website RunningRawAroundAustralia.com which has kept readers updated on their travels and adventures.
"We are healthier, more physically fit and have unlimited energy at beyond 60 years of age than in our earlier years."
"Eating so healthily and getting such great exercise, I know without a doubt they feel younger than I do, and I'm only 19," said Dulce Flor who is a fan of the duo. "Eating well and being active makes the biggest difference. Kudos to them!"
The Murray's also note that they eat dozens of bananas daily and strive to lead by example by initiating fundraising for numerous charities benefiting human and animal welfare groups.
