Australian Actress Samantha Doran talks to Examiner about some of her favorite roles so far and her plans for the future. Here's what she had to say:
How and when did you first get into performing?
I was always taking classes as a kid, always performing in school plays. I started to take it seriously in high school, getting involved with local theatre company productions.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
Jack Nicholson. ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest’ is one my absolute favorite films.
What kind of training have you done?
I trained in Musical Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia and was then accepted into the New York Conservatory For Dramatic Arts. Since then, I’ve taken classes at various schools, including Lee Strasberg Institute and Anthony Meindl’s Acting Workshop.
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
My most challenging role as of late was a film called ‘Double Shadow’. I played twins; they were polar opposite, but in love with the same guy. Tackling two completely different characters and having to switch between was a challenging, but incredible experience.
What projects do you have coming up?
I was recently cast in a Canadian Pilot called ‘Tide Waters’ directed by Terrence Winkless and I’m currently starring and producing a new comedic web series, set in a Mental Institution.
Who would be your ideal co-star and why?
Joaquin Phoenix. I think he is one of the most fascinating actors and reminiscent of some of the greats. I’d also love to work with Kat Stewart, she’s an incredibly versatile and brilliant Australian Actress.
What are you plans for the future?
To continue to work as an actor, as well as produce more of my own work.
What is you advice to other aspiring artists?
If this is something you really want, don’t have a ‘plan B’. Put everything you have into your future. Be determined and work tirelessly towards your goals. Don’t be afraid to produce and create your own work.
