Residents in Palmwoods, Australia were stunned to find stuffed koalas attached to crosses and smeared with some sort of red paint which was meant to look like blood. The koalas were put up on the side of a main road but were taken down by town workers shortly after someone noticed them.
At this point it is unclear who put the bloodied stuffed koalas -- local advocacy groups have denied involvement. It is clear, however, that someone is trying to send some kind of message... but what that message is and why it involves the "crucifixion" of koalas is unknown at this time.
There is a proposed project in the area that would compromise the natural habitats of several koalas and this "protest" might have been in response to that. As of now, that's the best explanation that anyone familiar with the area can come up with.
