Austin Rivers will miss four to six weeks with broken hand

On Wednesday night, New Orleans Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers fractured a metacarpal bone in his right hand during a 108-102 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at the New Orleans Arena, and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

At the 4:28 mark of the second quarter, the Hornets called a team timeout and point guard Greivis Vasquez promptly replaced Rivers who did not return to the game. Rivers finished the evening with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, two rebounds and a steal in 15 minutes of action.

Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, is averaging 6.1 points and 2.1 assists in 23.4 minutes per game. He was selected 10th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft.

The Hornets held a 25-point edge over the Lakers at one point, but were outscored 33-9 in the fourth quarter. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant scored 18 of his 42 points in the fourth quarter to lead Los Angeles to victory.

The Lakers improved to 31-31 and the Hornets dropped to 21-41 for the season.
