Poets who win the annual contests will receive both a monetary award and the potential to have their work included in the APS anthology, published in May 2014, titled ‘Best Austin Poetry 2013-2014.’

The APS, founded in 1949, is a member of the Poetry Society of Texas. Its membership has included poet laureates of Texas, as well as many other award-winning and highly published poets. Each year, the APS hosts multiple contests, meetings, workshops, and events. They also award the ‘Jenny Lind Porter Scholarship’ to a Texas student, as well as publishing anthologies.

To become a member of the APS, visit their website. Membership dues range from $10 for youth memberships - for those under 18 - to lifetime memberships of $500. Standard annual membership is $20.

To download the list of contest and the guidelines for the contests, visit the APS contest webpage. Submissions may be sent through Submittable or by mail. If they are sent by mail, they must be post-marked by March 31.
