Austin Peay University has seen a 40-foot-wide sinkhole open up at the school's Governors Stadium, and it has seriously hampered a big project going on. Bleacher Report reported on May 19, 2014, that the replacement of the main building for the football stadium is having problems now that the huge sinkhole has developed.

On Monday afternoon, the Austin Peay sinkhole presented itself to the world, but luckily, there were no injuries reported.

The hole is located in the north endzone of the football stadium, and it started out to be a mere three feet by five feet. Workers actually had to dig the majority of it out so it would become larger and they could get to stable bedrock.

Austin Peay officials and the construction crew have known about the sinkhole for close to a month, but the real work of correcting it began on Monday.

A number of smaller sinkholes are actually in the parking lot, and the construction crews are already preparing to fix those as part of the big project.

The large sinkhole on the football field is expected to be filled by the end of the week. No huge delays or issues in the new stadium building construction are expected.
