Austin Fashion Week 2014: Marketplace highlights

Austin Fashion Week is the curator for the most progressive, and eclectic, faces in the Central Texas fashion circuit. For six years, the coveted fashion showcase has grown into a week long production of runways, marketplaces, and award ceremonies. Designers from every corner of America pick up their current collections - and their cowboy boots - and head to Texas for this sold out, spring event.

This year, AFW expands their scope to encompass a charity brunch, benefiting the Rise School of Austin, a men's event, and a Designer Allstar series - all in addition to the runways and marketplace. As Austin Style gears up for ten days of fashion mayhem and event madness, we have pulled a few designers from the pack that we find worthy of your attention.

New York native Suzie Gallehugh brings her famed jewels, the Suzanna Dai collection, to the marketplace Thursday night. Gallehugh's style echoes a rich, cultural influence with both tribal and vintage undertones. The line favors thick and ornate beading while layering texture and color; the Suzanna Dai woman makes a statement. Gallehugh's work has been featured in countless publications and adorns the necks (wrists and earlobes) of several Hollywood mavens. She has become a fast favorite and Austin is eagerly awaiting a glimpse of what the rest of the country keeps chatting about.

Wednesday's marketplace will host a variety of designers, one of note is North Carolina based Kenda Kistenmacher. Her line, Kenda Kist, draws a huge contrast between Thursday's Suzanna Dai showcase. The Kist collection favors simplicity with artisan jewels and precious metals. These hand crafted designs are timeless and this silversmith has mastered the practice of minimalism and adornment while maintaining a uniqueness that exemplifies the Kenda Kistenmacher personal style.

Here is the full line up for the Wednesday and Thursday marketplace.
