Independence Brewing Company received the 2012 Good Food Award for their Convict Hill Stout in recognition of the handcrafted ale’s exceptional quality, and the brewery’s commitment to sustainability and supporting the Austin community. The Good Food Awards celebrate outstanding American food producers who push their industries towards craftsmanship and sustainability while enhancing the agricultural landscape and building strong communities. Convict Hill Stout was selected from over 900 entries including well-respected craft breweries like Alaskan Brewing, Brooklyn Brewery, Lagunitas, and New Belgium to become one of 18 finalists and ultimate winner.

Local brewpub and craft beer bar The Draught House is featured in the upcoming Draft Magazine's "America's 100 Best Beer Bars: 2012, the only Texas bar honored in the survey.
- Although not a local project, it's worth mentioning that funding for Beer Hunter: The Movie has met its goal but there is still time to back this Kickstarter project. Legendary beer hunter Michael Jackson was a frequent visitor to craft beer bars, brewpubs and breweries around Texas including Austin, and had a lasting impression on craft beer enthusiasts including myself.

This week several members of the Saint Arnold Brewing Brew Crew are in town for events promoting their seasonal release, Winter Stout, described as a creamy, full-bodied sweet stout with subtle chocolate and coffee flavors and a well-balanced soft roastiness.

- Saint Arnold Brewing Winter Stout Tasting at Whole Foods Downtown, 3 - 6 pm.
- Brooklyn Monster Barleywine at Black Star Co-op, 4 - 7 pm.
- Adelbert's Beer Glass Night at the Draught House, 5 - 7 pm.
- Saint Arnold Winter Stout Night at Zax Restaurant with glass giveaway, 6 pm.
Thursday, January 19
- Homefield Grill hosts the January Beer Dinner featuring local selections Jester King Craft Brewery Le Petit Prince and Adelbert's Scratchin' Hippo as well as Chimay, Stone, and New Belgium. Reservations required, 7 pm.
Friday, January 20
- Special cask of Saint Arnold Altared Amber at the Whip-in, 6 pm.
Saturday, January 21
- Pints for PR at Hops and Grain, 1 pm.
- Saint Arnold Brewing Austin Pub Crawl, 2 - 6 pm.
- Thirsty Planet has a busy week culminating with the 2012 Gorilla Run and are sold out for this week's tours.
- Jester King Craft Brewery hosts public tours and tasting room hours every Saturdays from 1-4 pm, with tours at 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm. This week's draught selection offers several new beers from the Jester King farmhouse ale portfolio, and guest gravity keg is Mahr's Helles Lager.

- Thirsty Planet's Silverback Pale Ale is now available around town including Fado's Irish Pub.
- Black Star Co-op features two new releases this week, the Crotchety Dockhand, the regular Dockhand with oatmeal and coffee added available on nitro, as well as the Truffle Dee, a cask conditioned version of the Double Dee with a touch of whole leaf Willamette hops and infused with fresh black truffles.
- North by Northwest Restaurant & Brewery has a limited release of Dark Side of the Moonshine, a Jack Daniels barrel aged version of the Dark Side black IPA collaboration between Ty Phelps and Kevin Roark.
