The candidates for the newly drawn twenty-fifth congressional district will come together for a forum and straw poll. The event will be held on Sunday, September 25th, at the K-Oaks Clubhouse in Lago Vista, beginning at 3:00 PM (VIP reception begins at 2:30 PM).
Texas’ recent surge in population has created four new congressional seats, making way for fresh faces in our changing political landscape.
The 25th Congressional District is made up of 13 area counties stretching from Hays to Johnson County. Some of the District highlights include the Capitol building, the University of Texas at Austin, the majority of West Austin, and sections of the largest military installation in the free-world, Fort Hood. The forum and straw poll will give voters the opportunity to acquaint themselves with many of these political newcomers as the primary election season approaches.
The Travis County Republican Party aims to educate Austin area residents of the new change. By assembling all the candidates together, citizens can familiarize themselves of the choices they will have presented to them in the March primary election. Since Texas is an open primary state, one could vote for the candidates in CD-25 even if not a registered Republican.
Candidate sponsors include: Former TX Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, Retired Lt. Col. and Small-Business Owner Wes Riddle, Former Mayor Diana Costa, Citizen Patriot Brian Matthews, and Businessman and Attorney Dave Garrison.
Anticipating the event, Dr. Rosemary Edwards, chairman of Travis County Republican Party, said:
“There is a lot of excitement about the new congressional district creating an open seat for our representation in D.C. This forum will showcase all the current candidates and the straw poll will offer our community the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidate. The North Shore Republicans are partnering with us to create a fun and informative event. We expect a great turnout at the K-Oaks Clubhouse.”
Attendees will mix and mingle with the candidates, be provided with light snacks and beverages, as well a patriotic themed set accompanied by the sounds of concert pianist Reuel Meditz who was recently featured in the Austin American-Statesman.
A huge turnout is expected for all 8 candidates which also include: Bill Burch, Chad Wilbanks, and Ralph Pruyn
Individual tickets cost $25. All tickets may be reserved at www.travisgop.com.
