America Recycles Day is Nov. 15, and several opportunities for recycling are available in Aurora throughout the month of November as well as year-round.

• Free Shred Month – Nov. 1 to 30

During the month of November, Aurora residents, businesses and city employees (with city identification) may drop off unlimited quantities of paper to be shredded for free at Curbside DataControl and Confidential Screening, 15686 E. Batavia Drive. Check in with the office anytime between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to participate. All materials must be free of trash, plastics and binders, but other recyclables will be accepted separately. Also, for those who wish to watch their materials being shredded may make an appointment on Tuesdays only and pay $25 for up to six boxes. To make an appointment, call 303-343-7096.

• Battery and Mercury Product Recycling – Nov. 15

The city of Aurora will collect mercury-containing devices and equipment and used alkaline batteries from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 at the Aurora Municipal Center southwest parking lot, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway. The event is open to Aurora residents only, and does not include fluorescent bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs.

• Cooking Oil Recycling – Nov. 27

Mexico Ave. The free event, presented by the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises, is designed to divert used cooking oil from municipal water systems and landfills. Both Aurora residents and non-residents may participate, and coordinators ask that the oil be brought for disposal in liquid form. Additional collection locations are available throughout the metro area.
