Reacting to a Jan. 27, 2012 voluntary recall by manufacturer Pinnacle Foods Group, Syracuse area Wegmans and Price Chopper stores have pulled from sale up to six varieties of Aunt Jemima® frozen pancakes. The frozen pancakes were recalled because they may contain soy protein, an allergen that doesn't appear on the product label.
The recalled varieties of Aunt Jemima® frozen pancakes were distributed nationally in cardboard boxes, and have a “Recommended Use By Date” between November 1, 2011 throught October 16, 2012 stamped in a white box on the end of the carton. Affected varieties and UPCs are:
- Aunt Jemima Pancakes Buttermilk Low Fat, 12/14.5oz., UPC 19600-05100
- Aunt Jemima Oatmeal Pancakes, 12/14.8oz., UPC 19600-05490
- Aunt Jemima Pancakes Buttermilk, 12/14.8oz., UPC 19600-05820
- Aunt Jemima Pancakes Homestyle, 12/14.8oz., UPC 19600-05910
- Aunt Jemima Confetti Pancakes, 12/14.8oz., UPC 19600-05955
- Aunt Jemima Whole Grain Pancakes, 12/14.5oz., UPC 19600-06040

According to the recall notice issued by Pinnacle Foods Group, this recall affects only these six varieties of Aunt Jemima® pre-made frozen pancakes. It does not affect other Aunt Jemima® products, including waffles, French toast, entrees, sandwiches, boxed pancake mixes or syrup.
Shoppers who are allergic to soy should not eat the recalled pancakes. No illnesses had been reported to Pinnacle Foods Group when they issued the voluntary recall.
Jan. 30, 2012 update: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a formal recall notice and pictures of the recalled products on its website.
Jan. 31, 2012 update: Target pulls one variety from Syracuse stores
Wegmans carried all six of the recalled varieties in its central New York stores. Wegmans' recall notice advises customers to return these recalled Aunt Jemima® frozen pancake products to their nearest store's customer service desk for a full refund. Consumers can also call Pinnacle Foods Group directly at 888-299-7646 for more informaiton, daily 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Price Chopper carried only the Aunt Jemima® Oatmeal, Buttermilk, Homestyle and Confetti varieties of the recalled frozen pancakes, according to the notice on the Price Chopper website. Shoppers should return the product to their nearest Price Chopper for a refund, and can call Pinnacle Foods Group, 800-432-3102 for more information.
At publication time, Syracuse area Tops Friendly Markets, Walmart and Target stores had not yet indicated that they carried these products. Keep an eye on Syracuse Food for updates to the list of local stores and chains that carried the recalled varieties of Aunt Jemima® frozen pancakes.
