August Schellenberg has died. The "Free Willy" actor passed away on Aug. 15 after a long battle with cancer. According to TMZ, Schellenberg -- who played "Randolph" in "Free Willy" -- died peacefully in Texas surrounded by his loved ones.
While Schellenberg wasn't extremely well-known, he had a lot of fans who loved him and his work. As TMZ points out, he often played Native American roles and while his body of work might be small, his talent was great. He was nominated for one Emmy Award for his role as Chief Sitting Bull in "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," a TV movie that came out in 2007.
August Schellenberg died a year after making his last film. Ironically, the film was titled "The Last Movie." He went off the map after filming and it is believed that his illness intensified. It is unclear what type of cancer Schellenberg had or whether or not he sought treatment up until his passing.
Schellenberg is survived by his wife, actress Joan Karasevich, and their three daughters.
