Today I bring you the August 2010 Mustang of the Month, in cooperation with the folks from the Mustang Owners Club of South Eastern Michigan (MOCSEM). Last month we featured a classic Mustang with a modern drivetrain and this month we go a very different direction as we get out first “Terminator” of the Month in the form of Gary Kohn’s 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra convertible.
For those unfamiliar, when the SVT Cobra returned to the Mustang lineup in 2003, it was one of the baddest cars on the street – earning them the nickname “Terminators”. They came rated at 390 horsepower but it has been proven and well documented that the 2003 and 2004 Cobra’s supercharged 5.4L V8 makes more than the official quote from Ford. Production numbers were low for the Terminator Cobras, making this high performance Mustang an instant collectable and today, the price of these cars remains high.
Owner Gary Kohn had this to say about his 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible:
I took delivery of my 2003 Mustang Cobra on June 6, 2002. It is number 79 of 5072 built. My first choice was to get a red one, but the salesman could not get the code to work, so I chose yellow. It turned out to be the best choice. I soon found out that there was a club for yellow Mustangs (Yellow Mustang Registry), so I knew I was no longer alone out there.
I also found out about MOCSEM. My first car show was in August of 2002 at Wilson Barn, it was MOCSEM’s Mustang Memoires Show. I enjoyed the show and left before the awards were all given out. After all, it was my first show, my car was new, there was no way I was going to win an award. I was so wrong because on Monday morning a co-worker who was at the show said that I forgot something at the show and handed me my first award. That is my most prized award because it was my first. I've been on a car show high since then. I've met friends from all over the country and locally that I would have never met had it not been for the Mustang.
I've put a lot of my kids’ inheritance money into this mustang (thanks kids). I had it lowered; I put on lambo style doors, air-brushed ghost flames plus many, many more. My best add-on is my sign under the hood that says, "My wife told me that if I bought the car, she would leave me…sometimes I kinda miss her.” It gets a lot of laughs at shows.
What everyone should know, that it's not about the Mustang, but it's all about the friends I've met alone the way.

Comments
Come on, if you are going to take down my comment at least correct the story. The 03-04 Cobra DID NOT come with a 5.4L engine, it was a 4.6L.
Got something to say?
