Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is the jewel in the crown of August car shows. 2008 Winner shown.
Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is often called the world's premier auto event and it's hard to argue with that. As cool Pacific waters lap at the nearby shoreline, velvet greens meets glittering lacquer and chrome in a transendant tableau of cars and setting that's nearly unequalled. The 18th fairway hosts 175 of the world's premier classic cars.
Check out the slide show for images of last year's Concours.
Pebble Beach has grown to include a week long schedule of events both officially associated with the concours and independent ones catering to its audience. Official events include a Tour d'Elegance, a Retromobile hall of automobilia, and an auction. Prestigious auction house RM hosts an annual bid-a-thon that features some of the world's most valuable automobiles.
This year's Concours features Bugatti and Bentley. The 100th birthdays of Audi and Morgan will be celebrated as well, along with the designs of Italian coach builder Zagato.
Cars are judged for style, historically correct restorations, and technical merit. There's a celebrity component with Ralph Lauren often showing cars and Jay Leno hosting the awards ceremony.
