Arriving on the scene with his 2013 hit single "I Luv This S**t" featuring Trinidad James, and showcasing his staying power with "Make It Home" featuring Jeezy, 21-year-old newcomer August Alsina is a force to be reckoned with. Often compared to Chris Brown with his velvet vocals, Alsina is scoring big with his provocative new single “Kissin on my Tattoos”.
In his trademark sensual tone, the New Orleans born crooner tempts a female suitor as he expresses his desires to engage with her in erotic play as he sings:
Cause when I be out with other chicks
I be thinking bout you
When you be out on dates
You be texting me too
Telling me to come pick you up, when he drop you off
I pray to God he ain’t breaking you off.”
Then with lustful passion he belts out the infectious hook in a tone reminiscent of a young Keith Sweat:
I don’t want nobody but you
Kissin on my tattoos
And I don’t want nobody but me
Talking to you
Until you fall asleep.”
This year's BET Awards, which aired on June 29, was a big night for Alsina, as he was nominated for four awards, ultimately winning the Coca Cola Viewers' Choice and Best New Artist titles.
In a time when it seemed as if R&B had been engulfed by Hip-Hop, Alsina arrived just in time with his seductive, yet sweet resurrection. With hits like this under his belt, one can only wonder what he will think of next.
“Kissin on my Tattoos” is featured on Alsina’s debut album, Testimony, which is in stores now.
