Kick-Ass is an action-packed superhero film based on the graphically violent comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Goldman and co-produced the film with Brad Pitt. There was some controversy generated by family advocacy groups over the profanity and violence in the film, especially regarding Chloë Moretz's line, "Okay you cunts, let's see what you can do now."
Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) is an awkward nerdy high school teenager who has two friends, Marty (Clark Duke) and Todd (Evan Peters), and loves comic books. His unrequited love interest Katie Deauxma (Lyndsy Fonseca) barely notices him. Another schoolmate Chris D’Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), the withdrawn spoiled son of local mobster Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong), rejects Dave's friendship. Living with only his father (Garrett M. Brown), since his mother (Elizabeth McGovern) had passed away, things are pretty normal until Todd and he are robbed.
Dave decides he will become a superhero like the ones in the comics and fight crime. Donned in a wetsuit as his superhero costume, he trains to become a crime fighter. One day, his first crime fighting opportunity arrives when he spots the perpetrators who had robbed Todd and him. Sadly, his superhero dreams are cut short when he gets brutally beaten, stabbed and then hit by a car. Clinging to life as the ambulance rushes him to the hospital, he begs to keep his superhero costume a secret.
A few months pass and Dave is nearly back to normal, with his body full of metal plates and some nerve damage that gives him a higher pain threshold. He returns to school and learns from Marty that everyone thinks he is a gay prostitute because he had been brought to the hospital naked. To his surprise, Katie starts talking with him because she likes "lame ducks" and treats him as her gay friend. Dave is thrilled, regardless of the reason.
Despite setbacks to Dave's previous superhero dreams, he continues to pursue it and sets up a MySpace account offering to help anyone in need of assistance. One evening, Dave stumbles upon three attackers beating up a defenseless man and saves him. His actions were filmed, along with him calling himself Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson). The video and Kick-Ass become an overnight YouTube sensation.
At school, Dave and Katie have now become good friends and one day she tells him that a meth addict named Rasul (Kofi Natei) has been harassing her at the clinic she volunteers at. He convinces her to contact Kick-Ass for help. That night, Kick-Ass hunts down Rasul, but is no match for Rasul and his gang. Just as it is about to become another case of déjà vu similar to his first stab at superheroism, he is rescued by a young vigilante girl in a costume named Hit-Girl (Chloë Moretz). After defeating all the bad guys, Hit-Girl leaves with her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Dave does not feel like he deserves the moniker Kick-Ass. Later Hit-Girl and Big Daddy pay him a visit and compliment his injured ego, offering their support on his future adventures.
Meanwhile, Frank D'Amico is furious that Kick-Ass is disrupting his business. He had already framed former cop Damon Macready (Nicolas Cage) when he got too close and now he is ready to kill Kick-Ass. Eager to make his father proud, Chris offers a plan to lure Kick-Ass by pretending to be a superhero named Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Chris, dressed as Red Mist, meets up with Kick-Ass and offers to become his sidekick. Together, they end up at D'Amico's warehouse, but find that is it burning. Everyone inside is dead and they manage to escape before it explodes.
Dave comes to the realization that he is not cut out to be a superhero. He quits and confesses to Kate, who then ends up becoming his girlfriend. However, quitting is easier said than done. When the D'Amico father and son team realize that it is actually Damon Macready, a.k.a. Big Daddy, and his daughter Mindy (Chloë Moretz), a.k.a. Hit-Girl, who has come for revenge, Red Mist sets the ultimate superhero trap by urgently asking Kick-Ass for help and to get Hit-Girl and Big Daddy as well. When Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl and Big Daddy discover they have been betrayed by Red Mist, they must find the core of their superhero strength to fight the criminal syndicate together and kick some ass.

Without a doubt renting "Kick Ass"!
Violently funny, gotta watch
So looking forward to the Kick-Ass DVD release!
I saw Kick-Ass because I'm a fan of Vaughn. Despite the brou-ha-ha over Hit-Girl's language and violence, the latter of which was cartoonishly over the top, it's really only a so-so comic-book superhero film. The comic book is far stronger.
I like Nicholas Cage movies, even the bad ones!
I absolutely loved Kick-Ass! One of mt top films of 2010 so far. Thanks for posting all these behind the scenes clips. Cool stuff!
The You Tube clips were great! I love movies based off of comic books so I am sure I will be viewing this soon.
