August 2013 will be remembered for the chilly temperatures for the first half of the month and the stretch of hot and humid weather that prevailed at the end of the month. The warm and cool weather balanced each other out making temperatures for the month close average. The high temperatures were very close to normal. The average high was 80.65° which is 0.05° above average. The low temperatures for the month were cooler than normal. The average low temperature was 59.55° which is 1.45° below average. The average temperature for the month, which includes both the highs and lows, was 70.10° which is 0.70 below average.
August was a relatively dry month with Grand Rapids only observing 1.9 inches, which was 1.69 inches below average. There were a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms for West Michigan. One event toward the end of the month brought gusty wind and heavy rain to the region.
August was another sunny month with 72.1% of possible sunshine. In a typical August we see 61% so that makes last month 11.1% above average.
