America’s favorite serial killer Dexter Morgan starring Michael C. Hall is back in Dexter: The Fifth Season. For the first time Dexter is emotionally distraught, full of guilt over his wife Rita’s murder. In the aftermath, he tries to balance his familial duties and the growing dark urges. His need to kill overpowers his ability to care for his family. When Dexter catches a mysterious woman who may have witnessed him in the act of killing, they forge an unexpected relationship. Meanwhile, there are those who are becoming more suspicious of Dexter and getting closer to the truth. How long will it be before Dexter’s long-kept dark secret comes to light?

“My Bad” - Dexter deals with the aftermath of Rita's death.
“Hello, Bandit” - Dexter tries to get the lives of his family back on track by temporarily curbing his dark urges, but is forced to reconsider after he makes a horrific discovery. Meanwhile, Debra finds it difficult to keep her private life private while sharing her apartment with Dexter and the kids.
“Practically Perfect” - Dexter tries to hire a nanny for Harrison so that he can continue his "extracurricular activities." Meanwhile, Debra is paired with a rookie detective on a double homicide and Quinn starts to piece similarities together between Dexter and his alias, Kyle Butler, a suspect in the ongoing Trinity Killer investigation.
“Beauty and the Beast” - Dexter catches a mysterious woman who may have witnessed him in the act of killing a killer; Deb has a frightening run-in with a murder suspect in the Santa Muerte homicides; and Quinn uncovers more striking similarities between Kyle Butler and Dexter Morgan.
“First Blood” - Dexter is saddled with an unwanted conspirator; Dexter worries about how Rita's death will affect Harrison; Deb works alone; Quinn enlists an old friend's help.
“Everything is Illumenated” - Striving to bring some normalcy back into his shattered life, Dexter figures the answer lies in finding a new serial killer to bring down, but his quest gets thrown off course when his troubled new acquaintance requires his help. Meanwhile, Batista uncovers a revealing new lead in the Santa Muerta homicides, and Quinn gets a tip about Dexter, but is not sure he can trust his source.
“Circle Us” - By aiding Lumen, Dexter puts himself on a collision course with Debra and the homicide division, and things get worse when he's brought in to work a horrific crime scene; Debra's investigation into the Santa Muerte killings leads her into a deadly confrontation with the killers.
“Take It!” - Debra and Batista both find themselves between a rock and a hard place during the Santa Muerte investigation while Dex and Lumen hunt for their latest prey at a self-help seminar.
“Teenage Wasteland” - Dexter and Lumen are distracted from their mission by a visitor. A new investigation, that of the Barrel Girl, is sparked in Miami, and Deb, freshly reassigned to the file room, digs up novel evidence.
“In the Beginning” - Miami Metro uncovers more evidence in their ongoing investigations, and Debra names two suspects. Dexter, meanwhile, comes across a possible ally.
“Hop a Freighter” - Damage control becomes Dexter's latest personal assignment, while Deb's speculation grows. In the meantime, a murder is tied to Quinn.
“The Big One” - Dexter is lured into a trap. Liddy's body is discovered and the murder is tied to Quinn who gets unexpected help from an unlikely source to get clear of the charge. Deb allows her emotions to cloud her judgment.
