The horn blows, and they're off. That's an all too familiar feeling for 33-year-old Davie resident Audrey Foy. Audrey, who is a full-time IT support specialist at the prestigious lawfirm Berger Singerman in Miami, fell in love with running after being introduced to it back in 2006, and has been an avid runner ever since. According to Audrey, running is great exercise and an effective stress reliever.
Audrey has been a frequent and diligent participant in the Fort Lauderdale 5K charity runs, averaging about 2-3 races a month, that her firm generously donates to. "I am lucky to work for a company that partakes in and donates to lots of charities and so that is why I particpate in a lot of 5K's year round. We usually do a monthly 'Jeans Day' on a Friday and raise money towards a cause in which the 5K's are pertaining to." The American Lung Association, breast cancer research and childhood cancer research are some of the organizations Berger Singerman graciously donates to.
When it comes to her preparing for a 5K run, Audrey makes it seem effortless. "I've been very active for most of my life so getting in shape to run comes naturally. However, to keep my legs fine-tuned before a 5K, I usually run a few times during the week leading up to the weekend 5K, taking Friday off for a 'rest day.'" In addition to running, Audrey is an active participant in high intensity training at least twice a week at two different fitness locations in Davie, consisting of rowing, running and weight-training with a fitness coach.
Averaging consistenly at about 30 minutes a race, Audrey's goal is pretty simple, and that's to keep at 30 or less. And if for some reason she finishes a race at above 30 minutes, she tries to "run a little more during the week" leading up to her next race. And if you're wondering what Audrey's record time is, it is 28 minutes, set back in May of this year.
Kudos to Audrey Foy for holding down a respectable full time job, making time throughout the week for rigorous exercise and tirelessly participating in 5K charity runs!
