Auditions to be held for Archdiocesan choir for Galveston-Houston

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has scheduled Archdiocesan choir auditions. Under the direction of Dr. Rick Lopez, the chorus is open to all adult Catholics of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston who have reached their eighteenth birthday and who commit to regular attendance at rehearsals and liturgies.

The Archdiocesan chorus assists with ordinations of bishops, priests and deacons, Chrism Mass and other liturgies.

"By the unity and harmony of voices, the choir assists the faithful to experience the beauty and love of God as they participate in the sacred liturgy, praising God the Father, through Christ Jesus, in the unity of the Holy Spirit."

Those selected to participate in this special choir are selected based upon their musical knowledge and vocal abilities. Choir members will have at least an average good choral voice being able to match pitch and blend well with other voices.

Positions are limited to 60-70 members.

Audition requirements:

  • Vocal presentation of 2 minutes of sacred song, hymn, psalm of your choosing with or without accompaniment.
  • Test of sight-reading abilities.
  • Proper read back (pronunciation emphasis) of selected Latin text from sacred music.
  • Pitch matching / melody retention.

Auditions will take place at St. Dominic Center, Morkovsky Hall Room 102, on July 17th and July 24th, from 1-to 6 p.m.
