Auditions open for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee musical

Phoenix Festival Theater, a community theater at Harford Community College, will hold auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 24,
1 to 4 PM, and Monday, March 25, 7 to 9:30 PM
. Auditions will be held in the Chesapeake Center on the HCC campus.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a one act musical comedy conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss. The show centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.

Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointment is needed. All roles are open to anyone 18 years of age and older. Those auditioning should bring sheet music and be prepared to sing 16-32 measures; an accompanist will be provided. Comfortable clothing and footwear should be worn for musical/dance auditions. The musical will be performed June 7-9 and 14 & 15. The play will be directed by Laurie Starkey with musical director Chris Rose.
