Based on Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs, “OKLAHOMA!” remains Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most innovative collaboration, setting the standards and establishing the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in the Oklahoma territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, Will Parker, a fun-loving steer roper and Ado Annie, a love-hungry flirt play out their love stories.

Songs include the title song, “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “I Cain’t Say No,” “The Surrey With the Fringe on Top,” and “Out of My Dreams.”

NJYT produces professional-level theatrical productions, musicals and plays, using primarily aspiring young adult performers from age 15 to 25. Founded in 1991, formerly Westfield Young Artists' Cooperative Theatre, Inc., NJYT is recognized today as one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed youth-theater companies in the State of New Jersey. NJYT's previous productions at Algonquin Arts Theatre include “Ragtime,” “Carousel,” “West Side Story,” “Sweeney Todd” and more. The cast and orchestra for these productions are selected through a competitive audition process.
