Audi of American released its 60-second ad for the Super Bowl, yesterday Jan. 27. The ad will air during the first in-game break after the 3rd quarter kickoff when, hopefully, most fans will be otherwise engaged.
Featuring the all-new Audi A3, the ad called “Doberhuahua” is a being promoted as “a comical take on how when people compromise, things go terribly wrong”. Directed by Noam Murro, the ad shows a couple attempting to choose the perfect dog, with one wanting a Chihuahua and they other a Doberman. The compromise brings the couple to “create” the perfect dog … a “Doberhuahua”.
The “Doberhuahua” goes on to wreak havoc and viewers find a cameo by musician and animal rights activist Sarah McLachlan, who spoofs on her own animal rights PSA, singing for the “misunderstood Doberhuahua”. While Audi may have aimed for humor, it missed the mark as this ad is just plain creepy. Super Bowl XLVIII airs Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
