An Attleboro school lockdown was initiated by school officials and police today after students at Wamsutta Middle School in Attleboro, Mass. reported seeing an armed man wandering around school grounds, reports CBS Boston on Oct. 8.
Police are actively searching the area but have yet to turn up a suspect. Two schools in the immediate area, Wamsutta Middle School and Hyman Fine Elementary School, were placed on precautionary lockdown, with police establishing a perimeter around the schools.
Children at Wamsutta school reported seeing the man, outside of their class window, in a field holding a rifle. When the man saw that he had been spotted, he fled into the woods.
Massachusetts State Police helicopters were called in to join the search over the heavily wooded area. The suspect was described by Attleboro's Police Twitter feed as a black male with baggy pants and a white shirt.

Students were released this afternoon to family members as police continue their search.
