The Walking Dead Special Edition 2014 Tucson is now arriving in Hyundai dealerships across the country according to Hyundai. This very distinctive 2014 Tucson Compact Crossover SUV features an Ash Black exterior with a subtle red accent graphics package and Special Edition exterior and interior badges. The vehicle will be offered only in AWD to assist drivers when off-roading away from the undead, according to Hyundai. It also has roof rack cross rails for hauling necessary survival gear while mudguards and custom floor and cargo mats help keep the vehicle clean as it escapes swarms of threatening zombies.
The Walking Dead Tucson celebrates the 10th Anniversary of The Walking Dead graphic novel series. In keeping with the theme, the Tucson’s black leather interior contains a custom Zombie Survival Kit – a Walking Dead 72-hour survivalist’s backpack - a necessary item for any zombie “prepper”. Inside is a Walking Dead Tucson Quick Reference Guide to enable the driver to fully utilize all of the features in the Special Edition vehicle.
“The Walking Dead Special Edition Tucson represents a chance for loyal fans to show their enthusiasm for the graphic novel series,” said Christine Jew, Tucson product planner. “The Tucson is versatile, responsive and fuel-efficient, allowing just enough room for those wisely-chosen passengers and supplies needed in the event of a zombie apocalypse or any survival scenario.”
For true enthusiasts of The Walking Dead, this Tucson will also offer vehicle decals for the four factions featured in the series: Hilltop, Kingdom, Saviors, and Survivors, so owners can proudly display where their allegiances lie.
Power for the the Walking Dead Special Edition 2014 Tucson is provided by the advanced 2.4-liter Theta II Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine producing 182 horsepower with 177 lb.-ft. of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual control. The fuel economy estimates (not that important when escaping zombies) are 21/28 mpg City/Highway with an expected average of 24 mpg.
The advanced electronic AWD system in the Walking Dead Special Edition Tucson automatically activates when needed in any driving condition, distributing power equally as needed. When not needed for normal driving conditions, the system sends power to the front wheels only. For those unusual situations calling for more driver control (such as escaping the zombies) the system has a driver-selectable AWD lock to provide 50/50 torque distribution front and rear. This Special Edition Tucson also features Hillstart Assist Control and a DBC switch to engage the Hydro-Electronic Control unit that manages wheel speed, steering angle and acceleration sensors for control on steep declines without having to use the brakes.
The 2014 Hyundai Tucson has a number of improvements and features that are included in the new Walking Dead Special Edition. They include LED taillights, dual automatic temperature control and a premium audio system with HD Radio technology that includes an external amplifier and subwoofer with 360-watts of power. To make sure that one routes themselves to safely escape the zombie hoards, Hyundai has also included their third-generation navigation system which includes a larger seven-inch touchscreen.
The Hyundai Blue Link safety, service and infotainment telematics system, normally optional, is standard on The Walking Dead Special Edition Tucson. It includes three years of Assurance Connected Care as well as SOS Emergency Assistance capabilities which will be important for those trying to survive a zombie takeover.
Hyundai did not disclose the number of 2014 Walking Dead Special Edition Tucson units that will be available, so if you are even close to being a passionate Walking Dead fan and are in the market for a very sharp and capable compact crossover SUV that reflects that passion, you should be talking to your Hyundai dealer now.
