Attention span and your health (Photos)

At the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce meetings, and at the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce meetings, we are told: 'State your name, name of your business, and your tag line in one breath.'

An elevator speech or brief introduction is much the same way, very brief, and to the point.

People may not understand everything that you do, and may not even grasp the essence of what you do because your message is reduced to a very short summary in a 'tag line'.

These days, people's attention spans are shorter than they have ever been, and there is more irrelevant noise competing for that too-brief attention span.

When people are not there in the first place, they not only miss the message, but they also are not able to remember it. Advertisers repeat very brief messages over and over again hoping something sticks in the person's attention and memory, which is decreasing.

Here is an interesting study on attention spans:

It is interesting to see that the average attention span of a human being in 2012 was less than the average attention span of a goldfish, where humans were ahead of a goldfish by three seconds in 2000.

I try to help people with this problem. I call this training in awareness my Present Moment Course. There are no tricks, gimmicks, or techniques. It is simply learning to be in the present, and not living in the past. It is a state of being, and it is your natural state.

This is the essence of yoga. In this state you are also able to see properly, without distortion, and remember what it is that you have experienced with complete accuracy.

In this way, you are able to tune into your own body, find the true cause of imbalances and dysfunction, and see the path to guide a proper course to homeostasis, supreme wellness, and power of performance.

Now that I have your attention!

The primary focus in my clinic is to help you to relieve pain, relax, focus, and find your power. If you are experiencing pain, stress, feeling tired, not sleeping well, these and other symptoms may be caused by a problem with your posture. I have developed my own system to help you achieve classic neutral posture.

The most important aspect of my system is for you to be in the present moment, and tune into your body. That requires paying attention to what your body is telling you, and also what is happening in the environment you are living in. Gravity is an essential power in that environment, affecting everything that you do.

Gravity, movement, and posture work as one, and a lack of awareness of this relationship brings needless suffering.

Many people needlessly suffer pain and dysfunction from a lack of awareness of neutral posture, and people also suffer from events that happen to the body when they are in static positions too long away from neutral posture. Injuries can also cause imbalances.

Alignment with classic neutral posture can improve balance, freedom of movement, relief from pain, and you can be handling gravity as your body is designed to handle it.

After hearing Steve talk about yoga at a Tualatin Chamber of Commerce meeting, I was curious to know more. Having suffered from shoulder and neck problems for years, and receiving no relief through chiropractic, naturopathic, acupuncture, acupressure or physical therapy, I figured I had nothing to lose.

After a month of doing the yoga movements Steve taught me, and being rigorous in practicing it daily, I have a greater range of motion, less pain and better balance overall. Further, the practice leaves me with a mental clarity I would not have believed, being naturally skeptical by nature with regards to “these types of practice”.

Consider me a believer now, and Thanks, Steve!
