North Miami Arts Collective also known as NOMAC will present Emerging Artist Residency: NEAR on Monday, Feb. 22 at 12:00 p.m. The NEAR experience enables artists of all disciplines to present creation. NOMAC: NEAR encourages dancers, theater, spoken word, music, and one-act plays to participate. Artists wishing to find a place to create and show their work, simply apply through this partially subsidized program. Applications for the NEAR Winter Session are due February 5th!
Applications available at: http://www.northmiamiarts.com
(Go to the "for artists" section of the website to download application)
Chosen artists will be given many incentives such as 25 hours studio time located at NOMAC, 845 NE 125th Street, North Miami, performance showcase at NOMAC, video documentation, anonymous audience feedback, after-show reception, and promotion of the performance.
In return, the artist will create and schedule their work, attend and adhere to the schedule and any required NEAR meetings or run-throughs, present the finished work or partial work-in-progress at the end of the showcase, and contribute a $125 artist fee. This fee covers part of the costs involved in using the studio, marketing, reception, and video documentation.
This is an ideal chance for those artists finding challenges in locating a space to work and perform. It enables them to be exposed to the community in an intimate setting.
NOMAC is headed by, founder and director, Marie Whitman. As a teacher, she also manages RainDanceProject, which presents arts education and performances to underserved and at-risk populations. She is also author of the book, “Signs and Wonders.” Currently, she is a lyricist for the Hispanic American Lyrical Theater Writing lyrics/libretto for a new opera.
NOMAC also serves an array of ongoing dance classes for children and adults. Classes given are full of quality for a nominal price.
