Attacker set to release new album 'Giants of Canaan' on February 2nd

Veteran New Jersey heavy metal band Attacker is on the cusp of releasing the band’s fifth album, and first with new vocalist Bobby “Leather Lungs” Lucas. Scheduled for a February 2nd release, the full album details have finally been revealed.

The album, titled “Giants of Canaan”, will be released via the Italian label Metal On Metal Records. The cover artwork, which can be seen above, was created by Jowita Kaminska-Peruzzi based on a concept and sketch provided by Bobby Lucas.

Kaminska, who also created the album artwork for the band’s previous album—“The Unknown” from 2006—runs Metal On Metal Records alongside Simone Peruzzi. The band’s signing was announced today, along with the final track listing for “Giants of Canaan”, which is as follows:

1. As They Descend (1:04)
2. Giants of Canaan (5:39)
3. Trapped in Black (4:54)
4. The Hammer (5:15)
5. Washed in Blood (4:54)
6. Sands of Time (4:25)
7. Curse the Light (4:19)
8. Black Winds Calling (4:14)
9. Steel Vengeance (3:53)
10. Born into Battle (6:08)
11. The Glen of the Ghost (6:52)
Total playing time: 51:31

Attacker originally formed in 1983, releasing its debut album in 1985 on Metal Blade Records. The band parted ways with vocalist Bobby Mitchell in 1986, recruiting John Leone the same year, and released their second album, “The Second Coming”, in 1988 before splitting up.

It was about a decade before there was any action in the Attacker camp again, when the band’s two albums were reissued by Sentinel Steel Records. In 2001, the band reunited with Mitchell and released two albums—“Soul Taker” in 2004 in addition to “The Unknown”—before parting ways with Mitchell again in 2008.

The band remained on hiatus between 2009 and 2011 before Mark Edwards of Overlorde—with whom Bobby Lucas worked on the 2004 “Return of the Snow Giant” album—helped to urge the two parties together in 2012.

The band re-recorded an older song, “Condemned” with Lucas in April, re-written and re-titled “Steel Vengeance”, which features on “Giants of Canaan”. Three songs—"The Hammer", "Curse the Light", and "Black Winds Calling"—can be heard on the label's Bandcamp page.
