Attachment Parenting magazines

Looking for some magazines that match your Attachment Parenting philosophies?

It can be hard to wade through the many magazines out there that preach crying it out, recommend $200 baby sweaters and tell mothers that they'll simplify their lives if they just switch to formula instead of breastmilk (yes, Simple Living actually did that!).

That said, there are some wonderful magazines out there that support Attachment Parenting philosophies such as gentle discipline, breastfeeding, natural living and more.

Here are a few of the best.

Natural Life Magazine has been around since 1976 and covers natural parenting subjects like homeschooling, co-sleeping, healthy snacks and gentle discipline along with topics like organic gardening, frugal living, hand made goods and sustainability.  There are many, many articles available online on all subjects.

Compleat Mother is another magazine that's been around for a while.  Calling itself "the magazine for pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding," it was established in 1985 and is published four times a year.  Click here to read some of their articles online.

Lamaze Magazine offers lots of articles about pregnancy and birth online.  Sign up for a Lamaze class to receive a free print copy.  You can also read a 2008 version of the magazine online and also subscribe to a weekly pregnancy newsletter.

Pathways to Family Wellness is a relatively new magazine that deals with alternative medicine, gentle parenting and health.  This uplifting magazines focuses on issues like chiropractic care, the importance of play, healthy eating and much more.

Midwifery Today offers an online magazine, print magazine and newsletters, forums and a blog, as well as the option to read past issues online.

Attachment Parenting International offers a free electronic newsletter, as well as a quarterly print magazine and an annual journal of Attachment Parenting research for paid members.  They have also recently launched The Attached Family online magazine for paid members.

Mothering Magazine is probably the most famous of all AP magazines but it has transitioned to a web-only magazine.  Mothering has been around since 1976 and deals with topics like health, gentle discipline, vaccinations, education, home birth and more.  The sometimes-controversial magazine may not be in print any longer but it still hosts message boards with a wide range of topics and the site has great archives, along with a digital subscription with extra benefits.

New Beginnings is a relatively new digital magazine that's offered free by La Leche League.  The full-color magazine covers topics such as extended breastfeeding, gentle discipline, healthy foods and gentle weaning.  You can access all of the issues here (issue #5 for 2011 is actually January 2012's issue).

Know of any other great AP magazines?  Please add them in the comments!
