Atreyu is holding on to hope but running out of time in NJ (Photos)

UPDATE 4/1/13: Wonderful news! Atreyu is safe in rescue. If anyone is interested in fostering/adopting him, please contact ThePolishedPitbull@gmail.com. Thanks to everyone who shared to save him. Please continue to share to find him a great home. Click here to follow his Facebook page.

The first year of life for Atreyu, a 1-year-old pit bull, has been one of neglect and sadness. You can see it in his face and the condition of his body. His ears are ragged, probably from flies feasting on them while he was left outside during the summer.

He has pressure sores from hard surfaces - the only place he had to rest, and facial cuts for which he never received vet care. They were caused when his extreme hunger and search for food led him into a backyard where food was present and the dog there attacked him.

He isn't aware that there's another side to life that he hasn't had the chance to experience yet - the good side.

This sweet boy was brought in as a stray to Cumberland County SPCA in Vineland, New Jersey, and has very limited time as he finds himself in an overcrowded shelter. He's hoping someone will come for him so he can live a long, happy life being loved and cared for. Someone who will be able to look past his scarred exterior to be able to enjoy the gentle spirit that lies beneath. Those soulful eyes are just begging for a chance to show you how grateful he will be for making him a part of your life.

With the comforts of home and proper nutrition, he can heal from the emotional and physical wounds he suffered. Atreyu is young and would like to put the past year behind him. Amazing how dogs hold no resentment and are so willing to forgive.

He thought he'd found his chance to leave when he met a woman who claimed she was coming back with her husband for him. That didn't happen and he doesn't have the luxury of time to wait for her.

So many people who know him as an affectionate, well-mannered, gentle boy want to help him move on to a better life before his time runs out. He may be okay living with a female dog with a proper introduction, and they believe he should be fine with kids, but should not go to a home with cats. Bring your kids and dogs to meet Atreyu to make sure he will be the proper fit for your family.

You can learn more about Atreyu through his Petfinder ad here.

If you can give him the home he is hoping for by fostering or adopting, email ccspca_foster@yahoo.com. Please submit an application and follow up with a phone call to check on the status of your application and to continue with the adoption process.

Please share for Atreyu because sharing saves lives, and you may reach the person who will ultimately save him.
