Atreyu drummer Brandon Saller to debut new band Hell of Highwater next Wednesday

Atreyu is one of the more popular younger metal bands around right now. They are so successful, in fact, that they can even afford to go on a self-imposed hiatus for a couple years. They’ve earned a vacation, to be sure, but it’s still a very gutsy move. They’re not basking in a tropical beach paradise however: at least three band members are hard at work on other projects during Atreyu’s sabbatical. One of the more high-profile belongs to drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller, who has founded a brand new band called Hell or Highwater.

Hell or Highwater finds Saller stepping away from his drum kit and moving to the front of the stage, as the band’s lead vocalist. The quintet has finished recording their debut album, entitled ‘Begin Again,’ which is scheduled to be released on February 5. However, Hell or Highwater is giving hard rock fans a live preview of their sound by hitting the road as special guests of The Darkness. The tour began on January 10 and will hit the Newport Music Hall on Wednesday, January 23.

You wouldn’t expect the UK glam rockers to bring along a metalcore band as a support act, but Hell or Highwater sounds nothing like Atreyu. They have a more mainstream, hard rock-oriented sound with clean vocals, which is a far cry from the heavy metal of Atreyu.

You can check out the official video for their first single, “Gimme Love,” here. The band has also made the track “Go Alone,” featuring vocalist M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, available here.

If you are planning to see The Darkness next week, get to the Newport early so you can check out Hell or Highwater. The band is gathering a lot of momentum right now and could be the next big thing in hard rock. According to Saller, “2013 promises to be a big year for Hell or Highwater.”

Hell or Highwater will perform at the Newport Music Hall on Wednesday, January 23. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets for the all ages show are $25 in advance and $28 the day of the show.
