There’s a new beach in town. Well, actually, it’s the same as the old beach, but it officially has a new designation and a new flag flying overhead. The beach at Park Place and the Boardwalk is now officially gay friendly, according to Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian. The new flag has the colors of the rainbow.
Atlantic City has long been a gay-friendly town, but a lot of people don’t know that as all they think of when they think of AC is gambling. Mayor Guardian spoke on the city’s past.
“Atlantic City had its heyday with the gay population on New York Avenue,” he said. “This is where you came when you wanted to have a good time. Straight people came to these places, too, because they wanted to party and dance in the hottest clubs.”
Casino gambling’s birth in 1978 pushed a lot of these clubs out of business; however, it’s time to move Atlantic City past a “gambling only” designation and for it to become a resort for everyone.
Besides the Park Place beach, there are going to be some exciting events for the gay community happening this summer of 2014. Here’s a few:
- Sand Blast is a 3-day beach party weekend
- StandOUT Expo, a networking event
- The Miss’d America Pageant, a drag spoof of Miss America

Did you know Resorts had the first gay club in Atlantic City? The resort still prides itself on being the most gay-friendly place in town. If all of the planned events take off, Resorts will be hard-pressed to retain that title!
So when you think vacation, think Atlantic City. We have a little something for everyone. And if you like to gamble, so much the better!
